Welcome to The Doodlery's new blog about our journey to becoming a non profit art bus. My goal is to share stories about myself & life experiences, process art & creativity, family life & community, hospitality & generosity, self awareness & acceptance. Thanks for being here and as always, I value your feedback & input!
I'm Sheila, a social worker and entrepreneur who lives in the greater Philadelphia region with my husband and two kids. I grew up in an Iranian-American-Italian family with deep rooted values in family, hospitality & generosity, creativity, travel, education & food....if you've been around Persians and Italians, you know how much we love sharing food!
I grew up in Neenah, Wisconsin and went to college in Stevens Point and Milwaukee WI. I have a bachelors in Family Life Education and Masters in Social Work (MSW).
I have a background in massage therapy and yoga, teaching English abroad, mental and behavioral health case management with adults living with HIV/AIDS & schizophrenia and with children in foster care and some work in pediatric oncology.
One of the greatest privileges of my life has been traveling around the world. I have always been interested in learning about different cultures and observing the way people live. One commonality I experienced in every place I've been is how the magic of kindness & generosity transforms people. This makes people feel welcome, cared for and seen.
I have also always been interested in working with underserved and marginalized communities and my next goal is to expand my work into a starting a non profit art bus that shares art with all kids in the greater Philadelphia region.
I believe that art connects us to ourselves, families and communities and look forward to sharing how we can do this as a community. You will learn more about me later on so for now, stay tuned for more!
